PANGYO, Korea (December 27, 2023) – NCSOFT, a global premier developer and publisher, has achieved the top industry ranking from ESG rating agencies, both domestically and internationally, for three consecutive years.
NCSOFT is the sole Korean game company to receive an ‘AA’ rating from the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ESG Rating for 2023. Since 1999, MSCI has assessed listed companies around the world, evaluating them based on fundamental pillars of ESG-related categories, including environmental management, human resource development, and governance, and assigning ratings on a scale of seven grades.
For a second consecutive year, NCSOFT has been recognized as an ESG Leader with an AA rating. In particular, the company was rated higher than its industry peers in information security, human resources, and governance management.
NCSOFT also secured an overall A rating for the third year in a row from the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability (KCGS), a leading ESG evaluation agency in Korea, for the third year in a row. NCSOFT’s ratings from both MSCI and KCGS are the highest among Korean game companies.
Additionally, NCSOFT became the first Korean game company listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) Asia Pacific Index 2023. DJSI Asia Pacific Index identifies the top 20 percent of ESG-managed companies among the 600 largest corporations in the Asia Pacific region.
In 2021, NCSOFT demonstrated its commitment to ESG management by pioneering the establishment of the first-ever ESG Management Committee in the domestic game industry. It further solidified its dedication to transparency and accountability by publishing its first sustainability report in the same year.
Since 2022, NCSOFT has been earnestly implementing sustainable management through a sincere approach guided by three core values in its ESG management framework. This includes promoting ‘Right Play’ to eliminate all forms of hate and discrimination in content, advocating ‘Digital Responsibility’ to uphold ethical standards in technology and enhance service reliability, and fostering a ‘Qualitative Leap of Society’ to fulfill social responsibilities such as making a positive environmental impact.
This year, for the first time in the Korean game industry, NCSOFT expanded the scope of GHG emissions reporting on a consolidated basis to incorporate its four local subsidiaries. The company also distinguished itself as the sole Korean game company to broaden the scope of GHG emissions verification, encompassing additional categories of other indirect GHG emissions (Scope 3).
